UAE Launches First AI-Powered Honey Testing Laboratory
State-of-the-Art Facility Aims to Set New Standards for Honey Quality, Safety, and Authenticity

Abu Dhabi Unveils UAE’s First AI-Enhanced Honey Testing Laboratory
Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated its first AI-enabled honey testing laboratory at the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. This cutting-edge facility, named the Honey Quality Laboratory, was officially launched on Tuesday, July 2. The initiative represents a collaboration between M42 and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC), marking a significant advancement in ensuring the quality, safety, and authenticity of honey products within the region.
The Honey Quality Laboratory is designed to set new standards for the honey industry by leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency. The facility conducts comprehensive tests on honey products to detect contaminants, verify unique characteristics, and ensure compliance with international quality standards. This includes evaluating crucial factors such as sugar content, moisture levels, and acidity to guarantee that honey products meet the highest criteria for safety and authenticity.
Engineer Abdulla Al Muaini, Executive Director of the ADQCC’s Central Laboratory, emphasized the importance of this new laboratory in supporting local honey producers and enhancing the global market position of Abu Dhabi honey. Al Muaini stated that the lab’s establishment aligns with the ADQCC’s mission to uphold high quality and conformity standards, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of product quality in the region.
Albarah Elkhani, Senior Vice President of Operations at M42, highlighted the broader impact of the lab’s technology and capabilities. “By harnessing advanced technology and scalable solutions, we are not only contributing to the local economy and achieving national objectives, but we are also setting a benchmark for global practices,” Elkhani remarked. He further emphasized M42’s commitment to a holistic approach with the ‘One Health’ philosophy, which underscores the interconnectedness of human and environmental health. “Ensuring high-quality standards in products such as honey supports biodiversity and helps safeguard the health of people, communities, and ecosystems.”
The launch of this AI-powered honey testing laboratory underscores the UAE’s dedication to technological innovation and quality assurance in the food industry. By integrating artificial intelligence into honey testing processes, the Honey Quality Laboratory aims to enhance product safety, foster consumer trust, and uphold rigorous standards in the global honey market.
