Syrian FM Embarks on First Foreign Tour to Qatar, UAE, and Jordan

DAMASCUS: The top diplomat of Syria’s new leadership said on Friday that he will make official visits to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan this week, his first trip to Saudi Arabia.

In order to restore the nation’s infrastructure and strengthen its economy, which has been severely damaged by more than ten years of conflict, the new administration is eager for international investment.

Syria’s Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani announced in a statement on X that he would be traveling to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan this week on official business.

“We hope that these trips will support economic recovery, stability, security, and the development of strong alliances,” he continued.

Shaibani headed a high-level mission earlier this week that included the head of intelligence and the defense minister of the new administration.

This is the new rulers’ first foreign trip since the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad last month.
