Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Issues New Law Establishing Dubai’s Distinct Emblem
Dubai Ruler's Decree Ensures Emblem's Exclusive Use and Protection
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, has issued Law No. (17) of 2023, officially establishing a distinct emblem for the emirate. The law emphasizes the emblem’s significance as a representation of Dubai’s values and principles, declaring it as the exclusive property of the emirate. The emblem will be prominently featured across various government facilities, documents, websites, and official events.
Private entities are also granted permission to use the emblem, provided they obtain prior approval from the Dubai Ruler or his representative. However, stringent penalties are outlined for improper use, including imprisonment ranging from three months to five years, coupled with fines ranging from AED100,000 to AED500,000. These measures are implemented to safeguard the emblem’s integrity and uphold its significance.
Individuals, with the exception of government entities or those granted explicit permission, are required to cease using the emblem within 30 days of the law’s effective date, unless they have obtained prior approval. Compliance with this requirement is essential to avoid legal consequences.
The implementation of this law will be supervised by the Chairman of Dubai’s Ruler Court, who will issue the necessary decisions to ensure its enforcement. Additionally, the law takes precedence over any conflicting legislation and is effective immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
