Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman’s Pakistan Visit Postponed
Anticipated Trip Deferred Amidst Unspecified Reasons

Saudi Crown Prince’s Visit to Pakistan Postponed
Commencing with much anticipation, the highly awaited visit of Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to Pakistan has been postponed for reasons undisclosed, as per a report released on Saturday. Originally scheduled to commence on May 19, the planned two-day visit to Islamabad has been temporarily halted, as reported by Geo News, leaving stakeholders on both sides awaiting further updates.
Addressing inquiries regarding the visit, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch stated on Friday that specifics concerning the visit will be divulged once a mutually agreed-upon schedule has been established between Islamabad and Riyadh. Baloch expressed confidence in the visit’s eventual occurrence, emphasizing its significant implications for the people of Pakistan, who eagerly await the esteemed leader from the brotherly nation.
The decision to postpone this high-profile visit arrives against the backdrop of recent diplomatic and trade-related exchanges between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to the Kingdom in March. The now-delayed visit holds immense economic significance for Pakistan, which is actively seeking substantial investments from Saudi Arabia across various sectors to bolster its fiscal standing.
Of particular note is the understanding reached in Makkah to attract Saudi investments worth USD 5 billion in Pakistan, further underscoring the shared commitment to fostering economic cooperation and catalyzing developmental initiatives.
Originally slated to mark Mohammad Bin Salman’s first visit to Pakistan in five years, the trip had been eagerly anticipated, especially given the historical depth of bilateral relations between the two nations. His previous visit to the country occurred in February 2019, during the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. A planned visit in 2022 was regrettably postponed at the eleventh hour, heightening expectations for the upcoming visit.
The deferred visit would have facilitated the third in-person meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman within a span of five weeks, signaling the robustness of the bilateral relationship.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a robust framework of trade, defense, and cultural ties, with the Kingdom serving as a pivotal destination for Pakistani expatriates and a vital source of remittances for the country. With millions of Pakistani nationals residing in Saudi Arabia, the symbiotic relationship between the two nations remains integral to their socio-economic well-being.
The postponement notwithstanding, both parties remain committed to furthering their partnership across various domains, with the hope that the rescheduled visit will serve as a catalyst for renewed vigor and cooperation in advancing mutual interests and fostering regional stability.
