Saudi Crown Prince meets Iran’s foreign minister in Riyadh, Saudi agency reports

Talks focus on bilateral issues, ceasefire efforts in Lebanon and Gaza, as tensions rise over Israel-Iran conflict

Saudi Crown Prince and Iranian Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Developments in Riyadh

Cairo: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed developments in the region at a meeting in Riyadh on Wednesday, the Saudi state news agency (SPA) reported.

Top oil exporter Saudi Arabia has had a political rapprochement with Tehran in recent years that has helped ease regional tensions, but relations remain strained.

Speaking earlier, a senior Iranian official said during his visit he would discuss bilateral issues and efforts to secure a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, and he would also visit Qatar later in the day.

The Middle East is waiting on the edge for Israel to respond to last week’s Iranian missile attack, which Tehran carried out in retaliation for Israel’s escalation against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon in a conflict parallel to the Gaza war.

Earlier this week, Tehran told Gulf Arab states that it would be “unacceptable if they allow their airspace or military bases to be used against Iran” and would retaliate against such a move, a senior Iranian official said.
