New UAE insurance policy brings relief to Indian families
Empowering Indian Workers: UAE's New Insurance Paradigm

UAE Launches Pioneering Insurance Plan: A Ray of Hope for Indian Workers
In a significant development aimed at alleviating the concerns of Indian workers, particularly those from Telangana, residing in the UAE, the Indian Consulate in Dubai unveiled a new insurance plan on Tuesday. This initiative, a collaboration between two prominent insurance companies in the UAE, assures compensation ranging from Rs.8 lakh (Dh35,000) to Rs.17 lakh (Dh75,000) for families of employees in the event of death due to natural or accidental causes.
Primarily targeting blue-collar workers, the plan extends its benefits to employees aged 18 to 70, with annual premiums as low as Rs.735 (Dh37) to Rs.1625 (Dh72). Additionally, the plan offers coverage of Dh.12,000 for the repatriation of the mortal remains of the insured employee.
The UAE hosts approximately 35 lakh Indians, with around 65 percent constituting blue-collar workers, making them the largest group of migrant workers in the country, as highlighted by the consulate. In 2022, the mission recorded a total of 1,750 death cases, out of which approximately 1,100 were workers, and in 2023, around 1,000 worker deaths were registered from the total count of 1,513.
The mission emphasized that in over 90 percent of cases, the cause of death is natural. While most companies insure their employees under health insurance and workmen’s compensation for work-related injuries and deaths, there is currently no mandatory insurance coverage for natural deaths of employees. Consequently, legal heirs/dependents of the deceased do not receive any compensation in cases of natural death.
To address this critical gap, the consulate facilitated a joint meeting between major companies recruiting Indian blue-collar workers and insurance service providers Gargash Insurance Services and Orient Insurance. This collaborative effort aims to introduce an insurance package covering both natural and accidental deaths, providing much-needed financial protection and peace of mind to Indian workers and their families in the UAE.
