In a momentous event that unfolded after the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships Men’s final on Saturday evening, March 2, a 60-year-old United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Indian expatriate clinched a staggering one million dollars (Rs 8,28,46,350) in the Dubai Duty-Free (DDF) Millennium Millionaire draw. The winning ticket, numbered 0971, was drawn by French tennis player Ugo Humbert, who emerged as the champion of the tournament.
The fortunate winner, Sunil Nayyar, originally from New Delhi, India, and a resident of Abu Dhabi for the past 39 years, secured his victory with a ticket purchased online on February 21. Nayyar, serving as a senior consultant for an insurance company, has faithfully participated in Dubai Duty Free’s promotions for 15 years.
Expressing his gratitude to Dubai Duty Free, Nayyar remarked, “Thank you, Dubai Duty Free. I’ve been buying tickets to your promotion for a long time and never lose hope that one day I will win, and finally it happened!”
When questioned about his plans for the windfall, Nayyar revealed, “Definitely it will go to my son’s education as he is currently taking up his degree in aerospace in the UK and, of course, saving up for my retirement soon.”
Nayyar’s win marks the 225th occasion an Indian national has clinched one million dollars since the inception of the Millennium Millionaire Show in 1999. Notably, Indian nationals constitute the largest demographic of Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire ticket buyers.
