Indian Tax Dept. Issues Notices to Wealthy Dubai Property Owners
The Income Tax Department has issued notices to many rich Indians who bought immovable properties like houses and plots in Dubai and did not declare them in their income tax returns.
The Foreign Assets Investigation Unit of the department has issued notices to nearly 100 people in the last one week alone, asking for an explanation.
Citizenship for those staying in the UAE for more than 90 days; Tax treaties between India and UAE are also applicable for stays beyond 181 days.
The UAE government has provided India with details of those who have stayed for less than 90 days and purchased properties. The Income Tax Department has scrutinized them and issued notices to those who did not show them in the income statement here.
