EGA’s New UAE Recycling Plant to Begin Operations in 2026

Construction of the plant, adjacent to EGA’s existing Al Taweela smelter, officially began in November 2023 and is progressing ahead of schedule, EGA announced in its H1 2024 financial results.

The recycling plant will have the capacity to process 170,000 tonnes of pre-consumer aluminum scrap per year into low-carbon, high-quality aluminum billets. According to EGA’s current statement, EGA will sell these flagship products under the brand name RevivAL.

EGA believes that the project will effectively meet a significant portion of the global demand for recycled aluminum, which will increase from 27 million tons per year to 57 million tons by 2040.

The company believes the plant will align well with the UAE’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

EGA has always been committed to its sustainability goals and in 2021 became the first company to commercially produce aluminum using solar energy marketed under CelestiAL.

Over the next two years, EGA will expand its low carbon aluminum portfolio to include solar and recycling. Aluminum is an even less carbon-intensive product, Celestial-R.

According to AL Circle’s report, “Global Recycled Aluminum Market Analysis – Industry Forecast to 2030”, the Middle East and Africa contributed 602,000 tons of recycled aluminum in 2022, which is expected to increase to 64 million tons by 2020. , representing a growth rate of 3.06 percent.
