Oman bans titanium dioxide in candies; 1,000 riyals fine for violation

Oman has implemented a ban on the manufacture, import or sale of food products containing titanium dioxide (E171). Also, Oman’s Center for Food Safety and Quality has warned that violators will be fined 1,000 riyals.
Specifically, the commission said it is added to some food products to give the food products a white color. For example, Tahini, chewing gum and some sweets and candies are mixed with them, the commission said.
Therefore, Oman’s Food Safety and Quality Center has advised residents to read the labels affixed to the products before purchasing them, as this compound may be listed as an ingredient in a product.
