Honoring Educators: MBRU and Mediclinic Recognize Outstanding Contributions to Medical Training
The First Annual Mediclinic Middle East and Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) Excellence Awards celebrated a longstanding academic partnership between the two organizations. Since November 2016, MBRU’s medical undergraduate students, postgraduate medical residents, and nursing trainees have completed rotations at Mediclinic’s hospitals and clinics in Dubai.
The awards, presented at MBRU in Dubai, honored the Mediclinic Adjunct Faculty for the academic year 2022-2023, recognizing their significant contribution to the education of MBRU’s students. Students themselves voted for the ‘Educator of the Year’ awardees for clinical years 4, 5, and 6, acknowledging the Mediclinic educators who had the greatest impact on their educational journey.
Additionally, ‘Star Awards’ were given to individuals who demonstrated exceptional commitment to medical education. The highlight of the event was the presentation of The Dr. Edwin Hertzog Outstanding Educator of the Year Award 2022-2023, which was awarded to Dr. David Curran, a consultant geriatrician at Mediclinic City Hospital.
Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Academic Health Corporation and president of MBRU, expressed gratitude to Mediclinic for their unwavering support in embracing students in their clinical practice. Hein van Eck, CEO of Mediclinic Middle East, highlighted the importance of this seven-year partnership in training the next generation of healthcare professionals to meet the challenges of an evolving healthcare landscape. The awards ceremony served as a testament to the collaborative effort and shared vision of advancing health and serving humanity.
