In a groundbreaking move, the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is set to be held in Dubai on December 19, marking the first instance of such an event taking place overseas.
The decision to host the auction in Dubai coincides with the second One Day International (ODI) match of India’s tour of South Africa, scheduled for December 19 in Gqeberha, South Africa.
The 10 IPL franchises have until November 15 to submit their lists of retained and released players. Subsequently, the final pool of players for the auction will be confirmed in early December.
Dubai has previously been a significant venue for IPL matches, having hosted a portion of the tournament in 2014. Moreover, the entire IPL tournament took place in the UAE in 2020, with a section of it being held there in 2021 as well.
