Heightened Alert at Philippine Airports Over Bomb Threats; Dubai-Manila Flights Unaffected
Amidst alleged bomb threats, international and domestic airports in the Philippines were placed on heightened alert, triggering enhanced security measures. However, flights between Dubai and Manila have remained unaffected.
Josh Vasquez, Philippine Airlines regional head-EMEA, reassured passengers, stating, “There has been no effect in our flight schedules, including Dubai to Manila flight.” The Philippine flag carrier continues to operate its daily flights between the two cities.
On Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) responded to a bomb threat against commercial planes by deploying security patrols and sniffer dogs at various airports. The CAAP confirmed that 42 commercial airports were placed on heightened alert, though the exact timing of the threat was not disclosed.
As a precautionary measure, “immediate enhanced security measures” were implemented for flights heading to popular tourist destinations like Cebu, Bicol, Davao, and Palawan.
CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio provided reassurance, stating, “No bombs have been found.” He further added that there were no flight disruptions, and increased security measures, including foot and mobile patrols as well as K9 units, were put in place to supplement existing day-to-day protocols.
Despite the heightened alert, Dubai-Manila flights continue to operate smoothly, ensuring the safety and security of passengers and crew.
