Dedicated Abu Dhabi Worker Wins Top Honor at Emirates Labour Market Awards
Pameela Krishnan, a 51-year-old employee at the Canadian Medical Centre (CMC) in Abu Dhabi, has won the top spot in the inaugural Emirates Labour Market Award’s Distinguished Workforce – Other Professional Levels category. Krishnan was recognized for her dedication and hard work, receiving a trophy, certificate, and a token cheque of Dh100,000 at a special awards ceremony. The native of Kerala, India, has been with CMC for 13 years, showcasing unwavering commitment under challenging circumstances. The award is a testament to her resilience and contributions to the workforce in Abu Dhabi.
Krishnan expressed her joy and disbelief at receiving the award, emphasizing that it was the first time she had been recognized outside her company. Colleagues praised her dedication, describing the award moment as akin to winning an Oscar. Despite the financial windfall, Krishnan remains committed to her job, stating that she will continue working until her boss instructs her otherwise.
The Dh100,000 reward will significantly alleviate Krishnan’s financial burden, helping her repay loans taken for house construction, children’s weddings, and gold jewelry purchases. She plans to set aside Dh20,000 and use the rest to settle her loans. The recognition also included additional perks such as a life insurance policy, a shopping card, a discount card, a Dh5 gold coin, and a two-night stay at a five-star hotel.
Reflecting on her journey from financial challenges in India to being celebrated in Abu Dhabi, Krishnan expressed gratitude to her employer and the UAE, considering the country her second home. Her story highlights resilience, hard work, and the transformative power of opportunities in the UAE for dedicated workers like her.
