Bobby Kataria Arrested for Human Trafficking: Promised UAE Jobs, Sent Victims to Fake Call Center in Laos

Kataria accused of promising UAE jobs but sending victims to work at fake call center in Laos

Social Media Influencer Bobby Kataria Arrested for Trafficking and Cheating

Social media personality Bobby Kataria has found himself embroiled in another legal controversy as the Gurgaon Police arrested him on Monday. The arrest came after allegations that Kataria cheated and trafficked two men by promising to send them to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but instead sending them to Laos, where they were forced to work in a fake call centre, police said.

According to officials, the victims, two men from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, were allegedly defrauded by Kataria who had assured them jobs in the UAE. The men paid Kataria Rs 4-5 lakh for this opportunity. However, on March 28, instead of being sent to the UAE, the men were sent to Laos. In Laos, they were compelled to work for three days at a fake call centre involved in duping people. The victims managed to escape and sought help from the Indian embassy in Laos, which facilitated their return to India. Upon their return, they filed a complaint with the Gurgaon police against Kataria.

In response to the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Bajghera police station. The charges against Kataria include IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 420 (cheating), 370 (trafficking of persons), and 364 (kidnapping or abducting with intent to murder), along with relevant sections of the Emigration Act. Kataria was subsequently arrested from his office in Sector 109, Gurgaon. Police revealed that Kataria was operating a consultancy service named MBK Global Consultancy.

“We have to check if there are any similar complaints against him. He will be produced in the court tomorrow (Tuesday) and police custody will be sought,” stated a police officer.

The police also mentioned that the victims initially came into contact with Kataria through social media.

This is not Kataria’s first run-in with the law. In 2022, he faced an FIR for allegedly posting obscene remarks about a woman on social media and threatening her. The same year, he was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly smoking on a flight. Furthermore, Kataria, who is also known for his bodybuilding, was criticized after a video surfaced showing him drinking alcohol in the middle of a road in Uttarakhand.

The series of legal troubles highlight the controversial nature of Kataria’s social media presence and business practices. The authorities are now investigating further to determine if there are additional victims of Kataria’s alleged fraudulent activities.
