UAE motorists: Emirates Road traffic diversion for 3 days

Emirates Road Lane Closure and New Speed Limits on Al Ittihad and Al Wahda to Enhance Road Safety

Temporary Traffic Diversion and Speed Limit Reductions Announced in Sharjah

A temporary traffic diversion on Emirates Road (E611), near Al Budaiya Interchange in Sharjah, was announced, starting Tuesday (May 28) until Thursday (May 30). This diversion is part of ongoing road maintenance and improvement efforts in the area. According to the map shared by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI), the right lane of the service road will be closed for those coming from Sharjah and heading to Dubai until Thursday (May 30). Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes if possible.

The authority urged motorists to follow the directional signs and adhere to the speed limit to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the diversion period. Additionally, traffic officers will be deployed in the area to assist with traffic management and to provide guidance to drivers.

Meanwhile, the Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah, on May 25, announced the reduction of speed limits on two major roads, namely, Al Ittihad and Al Wahda. This change is aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing accidents. The drivers will need to adhere to a speed of 80kmph instead of 100kmph, as the speed signs now reflect the new limit. This reduction is part of a broader initiative to improve traffic safety across the emirate.

In November last year, authorities implemented a similar speed reduction exercise on the stretch between Sharjah and Al Garhoud Bridge, bringing limits down from 100kmph to 80kmph. This previous measure has been successful in reducing the number of traffic incidents, and the current changes on Al Ittihad and Al Wahda are expected to yield similar positive results. Authorities continue to monitor and evaluate traffic conditions to ensure the effectiveness of these measures and to make further adjustments as needed.
