The Bahrain Garden Club, renowned for its prestigious Annual Flower & Vegetable Show, has announced the eagerly awaited competition for the year 2024. At a press conference held yesterday, the details of the upcoming event were revealed, set to take place from February 14 to 16. The chairperson of the Bahrain Garden Club, Eng. Zahra Abdulmalik, expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for their steadfast support, paving the way for the success of the annual show.
Diamond Jubilee and Collaboration Opportunities:
Eng. Zahra highlighted the significance of the upcoming show as the club approaches its diamond jubilee in 2025. As an affiliated club to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the United Kingdom, she emphasized the numerous opportunities for collaboration. The support from the distinguished figures has inspired active participation from club members, despite the unique challenge posed by next year’s solo show.
2024 Theme: “Bahrain Heritage”:
The theme chosen for the 2024 competition is “Bahrain Heritage,” a nod to the rich cultural legacy of the country. Eng. Zahra detailed how this theme has been intricately woven into various aspects of the competitions, fostering a celebration of Bahrain’s cultural identity.
Innovative Competitions for Different Age Groups
Engaging various age groups, the club has introduced innovative competitions aligned with the theme. For children aged three to six, an activity involves planting date palm seeds in Bahraini clay pots, promoting familiarity with local resources and sustainable gardening practices. Students aged thirteen to eighteen will partake in a floral arrangement competition, connecting them with nature by incorporating date palm pollen into their arrangements.
Children aged eight to twelve face the challenge of designing rock gardens, with a focus on cacti as desert plants, considering Bahrain’s climate. The competition introduces the concept of artistic eggshell recycling, emphasizing recycling practices and connecting participants with the local environment.
The 2024 Annual Flower and Vegetable Show promises to be a vibrant celebration of Bahrain’s heritage, showcasing the creativity and dedication of its participants.
