ABU DHABI: Some residents are paying more for basic health insurance plans from July 1

Changes to Daman Health Insurance Effective July 1, 2024

Daman Health Insurance Adjustments and Expanded Coverage in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, June 30 (ANI/WAM) – Effective July 1, significant adjustments will take effect for holders of Daman health insurance in Abu Dhabi, including changes to premiums, co-payments, and expanded coverage to encompass top-tier healthcare facilities across the emirate.

Premium Adjustments and Coverage Enhancements

Daman health insurance holders, particularly Emirati-sponsored domestic helpers under the age of 60, will experience an increase in the basic health insurance premium from Dh600 to Dh750. This adjustment reflects ongoing efforts to align insurance costs with evolving healthcare needs and market dynamics. The revised premium structure aims to ensure sustainable coverage and comprehensive healthcare access for all subscribers.

Co-payment Updates and Service Fees

In addition to premium adjustments, changes in co-payments for specific healthcare services are also set to occur. Currently, basic plan users do not incur standard additional fees for in-patient services and one-day procedures, unless exceeding the insurance coverage limits. However, beginning July 1, subscribers to the basic policy will be required to cover a Dh200 fee per in-patient service and one-day procedure, with an annual cap set at Dh500. Moreover, diagnostic services and laboratory tests, previously subject to a nominal Dh10 fee alongside a Dh20 co-payment for physical consultations, will transition to a 20% co-payment model, capped at Dh50 per visit. These adjustments aim to balance cost-sharing between insurers and policyholders while maintaining accessibility to essential medical services.

Medication Coverage and Financial Responsibilities

Under the revised policy, medication coverage remains at Dh1,500 per year, with a 30% co-payment fee applicable. This structure ensures that policyholders have continued access to necessary pharmaceutical treatments while sharing a portion of the associated costs, promoting financial sustainability within the healthcare system.

Access to Prestigious Healthcare Facilities

The policy adjustments coincide with the expansion of the National Health Insurance – Daman’s basic plan to include access to renowned healthcare institutions in Abu Dhabi. Subscribers will now benefit from comprehensive coverage at world-class hospitals renowned for their expertise in specialized medical treatments. These include esteemed centres of excellence (CoE) such as:

  • Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi: Recognized for its expertise in adult cardiac surgery and stroke treatment.
  • Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC): A prominent centre for stroke care and rehabilitation.
  • Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC): Known for its excellence in paediatric cardiac surgery and comprehensive healthcare services.

This expansion ensures that policyholders can access advanced medical care that meets international standards, enhancing overall healthcare outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Government Regulation and Community Commitment

The adjustments in Daman health insurance policies are aligned with local government regulations aimed at enhancing community access to high-quality healthcare services in Abu Dhabi. By expanding coverage to include top-tier healthcare facilities, authorities seek to bolster the emirate’s reputation as a leading healthcare destination and promote equitable healthcare access for all residents. These measures underscore a commitment to fostering a healthier population and supporting sustainable healthcare development across the emirate.
