Over 1000 Job Openings in Kuwait, including Expats
Openings for Citizens and Foreigners Despite Nationalization Efforts

Cairo: In a nuanced employment landscape, Kuwait Municipality has introduced a substantial wave of job opportunities, countering the backdrop of ongoing nationalization endeavors. The recently unveiled annual budget report highlights a notable 1,090 vacancies, showcasing the municipality’s commitment to inclusivity by extending job openings to both Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates.
Within this diverse array of roles, the report specifically earmarks 36 positions in the funeral department exclusively for expatriates, focusing on the crucial responsibility of conducting the ritual washing of the deceased. Additionally, 25 driver positions for hearses have been designated for expatriate candidates, emphasizing a broad spectrum of employment opportunities.
While the report outlines openings in specialized fields such as accounting, architecture, electricity, and mechanics, clarity is awaited on whether these roles are equally accessible to foreign applicants. The administrative landscape within the municipality, however, remains steadfastly reserved for Kuwaiti nationals.
Effective from April 2024, the new budget allocates a substantial KD190 million for wages and compensation, reflecting a noteworthy KD9 million increase compared to the current budgetary provisions. This financial commitment underscores the Kuwaiti government’s dedication to fostering economic growth and inclusivity in the labor market.
Kuwait’s public sector, boasting a workforce of approximately 483,200, witnesses a significant foreign presence, constituting 23% of the total workforce – the highest among Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Recent data from the Public Authority for Civil Information, as of February 2024, places the cumulative government and private sector workforce at 1.9 million, with 75% engaged in the private sector. Against this backdrop, expatriates make up a considerable portion, numbering approximately 3.2 million in Kuwait’s overall population of 4.6 million, according to recent census figures.
In response to demographic considerations, Kuwait has intensified efforts in recent years to generate employment opportunities for its citizens, with a focus on replacing foreign employees, thus addressing the demographic balance within the country.
