Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Indian Team Departs for UAE
Harmanpreet Kaur Confident as India Aims to Challenge Australia for the Title

Indian Women’s Team Departs for UAE Ahead of T20 World Cup 2024
The Indian women’s team left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup set to begin on October 3.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) women’s cricket official X Handle has released pictures of the UAE-bound squad that includes captain Harmanpreet Kaur, star batsmen Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemima Rodriguez and pacers Renuka Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar.
Prior to their departure, captain Harmanpreet gave a positive assessment of the team’s prospects of winning the Women’s T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi, despite Australia’s formidable opposition, during a news conference in Mumbai.
In 2020, India made it to their first T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, a night full of optimism for winning the illusive championship.
“Ready Steady Raring To Go #TeamIndia | #T20WorldCup,” said the caption of a post from BCCI Women.
However, Harmanpreet’s side were bowled out for 99 while chasing 185 against Australia.

This time, Harmanpreet expressed confidence that India would surpass Australia by taking its “best team to the World Cup”.
“Look, their team is good, no doubt about it. They also know that India is one of the teams that will challenge them. I think this is a positive sign. Whenever we play against them, we know we can beat them any day, any time. It was a great opportunity for us to win the title after many years. They know we are a strong team. We want to play good cricket and focus on what will help us beat them,” Harmanpreet told a press conference.
“If I talk about this team, we have a few players who have been playing for a long time and know their roles very well. I am very confident with this team and yes, I can say that this is the best team for the World Cup,” he added.
In the last edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022, India came close to making history by entering the semi-finals again. However, in the final four, Australia were once again deadlocked.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup, India have had mixed results. They lost the T20I series against Australia and England earlier this year, but Harmanpreet’s side bounced back with two consecutive series wins against Bangladesh.
The Twenty20 series between South Africa and India ended in a draw in July. In the Asia Cup 2024 final, Sri Lanka emerged victorious over India, having won the entire campaign.
India begin their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 4 at the Dubai International Stadium. Before the match,
India play practice matches against West Indies and South Africa.
In last year’s T20 World Cup, Australia defeated South Africa by 19 runs to win the title for the sixth time. Meanwhile, India lost to Aussies by 5 runs to advance to the semi-finals.
