Legendary Pakistani pacer praises local players, improved pitch conditions, and the league's promising future

Waqar Younis Lauds ILT20 Season 3 for UAE Talent and Rapid Growth

The third season of ILT20 kicked off on Saturday with a spectacular tournament featuring both emerging UAE talent and international cricketers.

Legendary Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis, who has been a member of the commentary team since the tournament’s inception, was among those pleased with its progress.

Waqar, who witnessed action-packed action on the opening weekend, expressed his appreciation for the league’s rapid growth.

ILT20 continues to grow stronger. I hope this year will be even better than last year, which was better than the year before. Everything about the opening game, including the start, was excellent. “I believe this tournament has all the elements to be among the best,” he said.

Waqar praised the exceptional performances of UAE players Alishan Sharafu and Farhan Khan, stressing the importance of the league in developing local talent. Alishan Sharaf scored 46 for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders against Desert Vipers. “Just like he scored 80 runs in an innings last year, Alishan Sharafo scored runs the other night,” Waqar said, highlighting his consistency. The villagers are really encouraged by this.

Farhan Khan, who plays for Dubai Capitals, impressed the former pacer with his nerves of steel in the season opener, where he scored 11 runs in the last over against MI Emirates’ Kieron Pollard. “A master of T20 cricket, Farhan bowled a brilliant final over.”

Waqar praised the development of UAE cricket, saying, “It shows that the kids are getting used to playing with big bulls and are not afraid.”

The former cricketer also praised the better pitch conditions this season, which have made the bat-ball contest more balanced. “There has been a significant change in the first few games; the quality of the pitch is particularly noticeable. The pitches have been very flat in the past, but from what I have seen so far, there is something for the bowlers, which makes me very happy,” he continued.

As ILT20 progresses, Waqar Younis’ optimism about the future of the league and the performance of UAE cricketers sets the stage for a fantastic season to come.
