UAE Weather Alert: NCM Issues Dust Storm Warning and Yellow Alert for Abu Dhabi Areas

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a significant alert, forecasting a period of heightened weather activity in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Specifically, a dust alert has been raised, indicating potentially hazardous conditions from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued, particularly for areas in Abu Dhabi such as Asab, Liwa, Hamim, and Habshan. This cautionary measure advises the public to exercise vigilance, especially during outdoor activities, in light of the expected weather conditions.

In response to this alert, authorities, notably the Abu Dhabi Police, have issued advisories urging drivers to exercise extreme caution due to the anticipated reduction in horizontal visibility during the impending dust storm. Such precautions are crucial for ensuring public safety on the roads amidst adverse weather conditions.

The day began with continued light to moderate rainfall in certain parts of the country, following a previous day of unstable weather characterized by lightning and rainfall. The onset of these weather phenomena occurred earlier than anticipated, underscoring the dynamic nature of weather patterns in the region.

Residents were preemptively informed by the NCM about the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall across various areas, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road. This proactive communication aims to enhance preparedness and minimize any potential risks associated with the changing weather conditions.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates a partly cloudy day with intermittent cloud cover and sporadic rainfall expected in scattered areas, as indicated by the NCM’s projections.

Winds are forecasted to range from light to moderate, occasionally intensifying to fresh to strong levels, particularly over maritime areas. This may result in the dispersal of dust and sand, leading to reduced horizontal visibility, further emphasizing the importance of caution during outdoor activities.

Seas are expected to experience moderate to rough conditions, especially in regions affected by cloud cover in the Arabian Gulf, while remaining relatively calmer in the Oman Sea.

Temperature variations across the country are expected, with lows of 15ºC anticipated in internal and mountainous regions and highs of up to 37ºC projected in internal areas, according to meteorological forecasts. These temperature differentials underscore the diverse climatic conditions prevalent across the UAE.
