UAE Tour: Tim Merlier clinches a hat-trick of wins on stage 6
Jay Vine retains overall lead for final summit finish

Tim Merlier, riding for Soudal-QuickStep, demonstrated his sprinting prowess with an impressive third victory in stage 6 of the UAE Tour. His consistent dominance throughout the week, coupled with two second-place finishes, firmly establishes him as a sprinting powerhouse in the peloton.
In the highly competitive bunch sprint to Abu Dhabi, Merlier showcased superior speed, leaving competitors Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor) and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) trailing behind. The challenging terrain of wide roads and a disorderly finale added complexity, but Merlier navigated through the chaos with remarkable composure, strategically positioning himself before executing a decisive sprint.
As the Jayco-Alula team, led by Dylan Groenewegen, initially controlled the peloton, the chaotic nature of the finale made it challenging for any single team to dictate proceedings from the front. Merlier astutely positioned himself and, approaching the final bend, initiated a powerful sprint with over 200 meters remaining. His exceptional speed secured yet another victory, with De Kleijn securing second place.
Merlier’s stellar form extends his tally to five victories this season, instilling confidence for upcoming races. However, despite his success, he is set to miss out on Tour de France participation for the third consecutive year, as Soudal-QuickStep focuses on supporting Remco Evenepoel’s General Classification ambitions.
In a noteworthy development, Mark Cavendish (Astana-Qazaqstan) withdrew from the race due to a fever. The stage witnessed a spirited effort from a five-man breakaway group, although their chances against the sprinters were slim.
Maintaining his overall lead, Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) enters the final stage with an 11-second advantage. The concluding summit finish at Jebel Hafeet promises a thrilling conclusion to the UAE Tour, capping off a week of exhilarating racing in the Emirates.
