UAE to Face Brazil in NEOM Beach Soccer Cup 2024 Final
NEOM: Defending champions Brazil and the United Arab Emirates advanced to the finals of the NEOM Beach Soccer Cup 2024 with wins over Japan and Saudi Arabia in their last matches of the group stages on Friday.
In Group A, the United Arab Emirates beat Saudi Arabia 6-5 to take the score to 9 points, while the Green Falcons finished last with 2 points.
In the same group, Germany beat England 6-3 to move into second place with 3 points, ahead of the third-placed Three Lions on goal difference, their first win of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in Group B, the South American team beat Spain 9-1, while Japan beat China 9-0. These results put Brazil first in the group with 9 points, Brazil, who reached the finals for the third year in a row, Spain with 6 points and Japan with 3 points, while China finished last in the group with no points.
The United Arab Emirates will play Brazil in Saturday night’s final, while Spain will face Germany for third and fourth place.
The match for fifth and sixth place will tie Japan and England, while Saudi Arabia will face China in the match for seventh and eighth place.
UAE defender Waleed Abdullah spoke to Arab News after the match against Saudi Arabia.
“It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen in the tournament,” he said. “The Brazilian team is very strong and ranked number one in the world, and we have respect for them. We will enter the match with great focus and do our best. Ultimately, this is an opportunity to face the world champions, and this is not the first time we compete with them.
In the women’s group, a late goal from Brazilian striker Dani Barbosa saw the team beat Ukraine 5-4 to reach the final against Spain.
