UAE to Launch AI-Powered Virtual Lawyer to Speed Up Legal Cases
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence-enabled “virtual lawyer” project aimed at simplifying legal proceedings for straightforward cases.
On Sunday 20 October, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in partnership with the Office of Government Development and Future and the Office of Artificial Intelligence, the Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, announced the UAE Government.
This new initiative was launched as part of the 44th edition of GITEX Global 2024.
Virtual Lawyer is a first-of-its-kind project in the UAE and the region, and aims to speed up litigation, improve services, promote global leadership and improve litigants’ journey.
The MoJ will create a “unified national legislative text database” for virtual lawyers, who must register with the ministry to access it.
A trial version of a virtual lawyer will be introduced in 2025 as a template for future governments looking to enhance their services through cutting-edge digital technology.
Early stages include voice-to-text conversion, document submission, basic case assistance, and interaction with actual judges.
The project is in line with the UAE’s long-term goals of advancing digital and technical change and expanding the application of AI technologies.
