UAE Start-up Peec Mobility Unveils Petrol-to-Electric Repurposed Vehicles at COP28

Peec Mobility, a Dubai-based start-up, introduced the UAE’s first home-grown petrol-to-electric repurposed vehicle at COP28. The technology, developed by the 24-year-old entrepreneur Zach Faizal, transforms retired petrol vehicles into electric ones, reducing carbon emissions on UAE roads. Peec Mobility aims to repurpose entire fleets of internal combustion engine (ICE) buses, cars, and trucks at 30% lower cost and 80% less manufacturing time than new electric vehicles (EVs).

Peec Mobility’s breakthrough technology offers a cost-effective alternative to mass scrapping of existing ICE vehicle fleets. The repurposing process retains the body and chassis of retired petrol vehicles while converting them into electric vehicles.

The technology promises to deliver repurposed cars at almost half the cost of new EVs. Faizal aims to price Peec’s vehicles 30% to 50% lower than the average electric car on the market, making them more affordable for consumers.

By repurposing retired vehicles, Peec Mobility addresses the challenge of affordability in the electric mobility sector. The start-up aims to reduce 23% of emissions from the transportation sector by 2030, contributing to the UAE’s Net-Zero goals.

Peec Mobility seeks to collaborate with the government to implement vehicle conversion at scale. Faizal envisions creating a replicable model that supports the UAE’s Net Zero goal and serves as an example for other countries.

The start-up aims to work with key local partners on technologies and business strategies to repurpose scrapyard-ready vehicles. Peec Mobility’s first line-up of repurposed mid-sized sedans and buses is set to debut at COP28.

Future Plans:
1. Scale and Replicability: Peec Mobility plans to have at least 500 repurposed EVs operating on Dubai roads by 2024. The start-up envisions expanding its model to other countries, redefining the used-car market globally.

2. Global Impact: Recognizing the global need for sustainable solutions, Peec Mobility emphasizes the pragmatic approach of conversion, aiming to reduce additional carbon emissions associated with manufacturing and scrapping during the EV transition.

3. Local ReFactories: Faizal intends to set up the first ReFactory in Dubai Internet City (DIC) to start production in the coming year. The goal is to design, engineer, and produce Peec technology and vehicles locally while developing the ancillary automotive supply chain.

Peec Mobility’s unveiling at COP28 marks a significant step toward sustainable mobility solutions. The innovative repurposing technology aligns with global efforts to address climate change and reduce the environmental impact of transportation. The start-up’s commitment to affordability, environmental impact, and collaboration with the government positions it as a key player in advancing the transition to electric mobility in the UAE and beyond.
