Sheikh Mohammed Hails Success of Emiratisation Program Amid Record Job Placements

UAE Celebrates Milestone: Over 100,000 Citizens Employed in Private Sector
The private sector in the UAE has achieved a significant milestone, with the number of Emirati citizens employed surpassing 100,000 for the first time in the nation’s history. Encouraging statistics released on Sunday underscored the success of the Nafis employment program, launched by President Sheikh Mohamed in September 2021, which has facilitated the placement of 70,000 Emiratis in private sector roles over the past two and a half years.
Reflecting on the Emiratisation strategy within the private sector, Sheikh Mohammed, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, commended the substantial support provided, amounting to Dh24 billion, for the Nafis program. He also acknowledged the implementation of legislative measures aimed at promoting Emiratisation and fostering economic growth in the country.
In a move to further prioritize Emirati applicants, the UAE Cabinet recently decided that individuals with at least three years of experience in private sector roles will receive preference in federal government job appointments. This initiative seeks to leverage the expertise gained by Emiratis in the private sector and integrate it into federal government positions.
Taking to social media, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the symbiotic relationship between the private and government sectors, highlighting the plethora of opportunities available to both nationals and expatriates within the national economy. He reiterated the ambitious goal of creating an additional 100,000 jobs for Emiratis over the next three years.
Since its inception, the Nafis program has played a pivotal role in encouraging Emiratis to pursue careers in the private sector. To further bolster Emiratisation efforts, private companies are mandated to increase their Emirati workforce by two percent annually, with a target of reaching at least 10 percent Emirati representation by 2026. Compliance is rigorously monitored, with fines imposed on companies failing to meet these targets.
Starting July 1, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation will intensify inspections to ensure compliance with Emiratisation regulations. Companies found to be non-compliant will face penalties, with fines increasing annually for each Emirati position left unfilled.
The sustained growth in Emirati employment within the private sector reflects the success of government initiatives aimed at enhancing Emiratisation and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. With ongoing efforts to promote Emirati talent and integrate it into various sectors of the economy, the UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable growth and prosperity.
