UAE Sends Vital Winter Aid to Gaza, Leading Global Humanitarian Efforts
A plane carrying winter clothing for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip arrived at Al Arish Airport in Egypt on Tuesday night.
The aid packages, which include jackets and other warm clothing, will help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians struggling to cope with the ongoing clashes and harsh winter conditions at Egypt’s Rafah border crossing, through tent camps.
An additional shipment of winter clothing will also be sent to Gaza as part of the UAE’s Gallant Night 3 operation, a senior Emirates Red Crescent official told The Nation, adding that final preparations for the convoys carrying the supplies have been completed.
“We will send more jackets and warm clothing to our brothers in Gaza who are bravely enduring the harsh winter months,” said Ali Ahmed Al Muheiri. “This will be distributed through shelters, hospitals and medical clinics in Gaza.”
Desperate families in Gaza are turning blankets and other fabrics into warm clothes for their children as they prepare for the cold weather as they are repeatedly forced out during the ongoing war.
The UAE has sent dozens of aid planes carrying thousands of tons of essential supplies to support Gaza. The German Press Agency (dpa) reported earlier this month that the Emirates has provided 42 percent of all aid sent to Gaza since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in October last year, topping the list of donor countries. The UAE’s aid contributions are worth $828 million.
The Emirates was one of the first countries to respond to the Gaza crisis, with President Sheikh Mohammed launching Operation Gallant Knight to send vital aid by land, air and sea. Since it began operating in December last year, the UAE Hospital in the Gaza Strip has treated more than 50,000 patients.
The floating hospital, anchored in the port of Al Arish in Egypt, has treated more than 7,500 patients since its launch in February. The Emirates has established two hospitals, including a center dedicated to providing prosthetic limbs to Palestinians injured in the war.
