Sailor from Tuticorin Dies in Fire Aboard Gabon-Flagged Tanker at Sharjah Port

Madurai: A fire broke out on an oil tanker called MT Narasimhaa, which caused the death of sailor Sharon from Tuticorin. The ship, traveling under the flag of Gabon, was anchored in the outer anchorage of the port of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates when the accident happened.

On August 19, a fire broke out while Sharon was cleaning a tank on the ship together with other sailors. This fire accident led to the death of Sharon and two sailors. The ship finally arrived at Sharjah port on Thursday, where the bodies of the dead sailors were retrieved for post-mortem examination.

In response to this incident, the National Union of Indian Seafarers has called for a full investigation and full disclosure from the ship’s authorities regarding the cause of the fire. This request underscores the union’s concern for transparency and accountability in the investigation process.
