UAE-Romania Joint Committee Holds 3rd Ministerial Meeting in Bucharest
On April 29, 2024, the third ministerial meeting of the UAE-Romania Joint Committee convened at the esteemed Romanian Parliament Palace in Bucharest, marking a significant chapter in the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Romania. Led by Mariam Bint Mohammed Almeiri, Head of the Office of International Affairs at the Presidential Court, the UAE delegation embarked on a pivotal engagement with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolagu and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu, among other distinguished officials.
Prime Minister Ciolagu extended a gracious welcome to Almeiri and her accompanying delegation, acknowledging the robust bilateral relations between the UAE and Romania across economic, trade, and investment domains. He emphasized the UAE’s pivotal role as a key regional partner and expressed mutual eagerness to fortify bilateral ties for the collective prosperity of both nations.
The gathering witnessed the presence of prominent figures, including UAE Ambassador to Romania Sultan Mohammed Al Ali and senior officials from various UAE government agencies. Additionally, representatives from the private sector from both countries contributed to the comprehensive discussions.
Deliberations during the meeting encompassed a wide array of sectors critical to the economic landscapes of both the UAE and Romania. Topics of mutual interest included tourism, education, scientific research, healthcare, industry, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), renewable energy, civil aviation, agriculture, and food security.
Almeiri commended the depth and resilience of bilateral relations, underscoring the visionary leadership of both nations and the enduring foundation of trust that facilitates long-term cooperation. She highlighted the paramount importance of fostering robust trade exchanges and cultivating strong partnerships, particularly within the SME sector. Moreover, Almeiri emphasized the vast spectrum of investment opportunities available for UAE enterprises in Romania, inviting exploration and collaboration.
The meeting also served as a platform to explore avenues for investment cooperation and capitalize on emerging opportunities within the Romanian market. Almeiri reiterated the unwavering commitment of both parties to fostering strategic initiatives and forging enduring partnerships to surmount challenges and achieve tangible outcomes for the mutual benefit of their respective populations.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the formal signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UAE Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Romania. This landmark agreement aims to bolster economic cooperation between the two nations and facilitate collaboration across various sectors.
Following the official proceedings, Ambassador Al Ali hosted an elegant dinner reception at the UAE Embassy, providing a conducive environment for Almeiri to engage in further dialogue with UAE business owners and investors. The discussions centered on exploring investment opportunities and potential projects arising from the joint committee meeting, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen economic ties and leverage shared interests for mutual prosperity.
