UAE President Grants Eid Pardon: Over 1,500 Prisoners Released, Including 500+ Indians
Mass Pardon Announced Before Ramadan
Ahead of Ramadan, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared a mass pardon for convicts in a major humanitarian gesture. An order has now been issued to release 1,295 convicts by the end of Ramadan as part of this plan. Furthermore, in one of the biggest amnesty rulings in recent memory, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has given pardon to 1,518 prisoners.
Over 500 Indians Benefit from the Pardon
Among those pardoned, more than 500 Indian citizens are set to regain their freedom.With this choice, they can now celebrate Eid with their loved ones and reunite with their families. This move promotes goodwill among the people of different nationalities living in the UAE and demonstrates the leadership’s commitment to humanitarian principles.
Indian Community in the UAE
With 37.96% of the total population, the Indian diaspora is the largest expatriate community in the UAE. The UAE has the second largest Indian expatriate community in the world, with nearly 3.6 million Indians living there as of December 2024 (35,68,848). Indians have contributed significantly to the UAE’s expansion in a number of fields, enhancing the two countries’ bilateral relations.
