UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team to Compete at World Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2024 in Croatia

ABU DHABI: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, is set to compete in the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup in Sadar, Croatia on August 24, 2024.

Organized by the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, more than 350 athletes from 24 countries will compete in various age groups and weight divisions.

The UAE team of 21 athletes left for Croatia on Thursday morning.

The World Jiu-Jitsu Cup is the team’s fourth international competition this year. Earlier, Emirati athletes successfully defended the title for the fourth consecutive year at the eighth edition of the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship.

He also showcased his skills at the 2024 Grand Prix Thailand Open and a strong performance at the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union Regional Championship West Asia held in Jordan.

UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation Director of Technical Department Mubarak Al-Menhali said the team’s participation is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain our dominance in continental and international competitions. It helps us prepare for upcoming events and strengthen our leadership in this sport.

He added: “This is in line with the Federation’s strategy to focus on youth development, supporting and enhancing their skills. We are confident that the team members are ready and committed to face tough competition and honor the name of (the) UAE on the world stage.

UAE Under-18 team coach Pedro Damasceno added, “This competition will give us an insight into our current status and help us prepare for the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Greece, which will be the team’s toughest championship this year. ”

He said that four coaches will accompany the team. “We appreciate the support of the federation members and the organizers who have been instrumental in our preparations.

“We expect to see strong performances from our fighters and we’re eager to test everything we’ve worked on over the past two months.”
