UAE Leads Global Rankings in Civil Aviation Competitiveness
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position as a global leader in civil aviation competitiveness, boasting impressive rankings across various indicators. According to the recently unveiled World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, the UAE has achieved remarkable success, securing the top spot worldwide in the crucial “Quality of Air Transport Infrastructure” indicator. Additionally, it has clinched the 3rd position globally in two other significant indicators: the “Efficiency of Air Transport Services” and the “Available Airline Seat Kilometres – millions/week.”
Within the Middle East and North Africa region, the UAE continues to shine, leading in key indicators such as the “Number of Operating Airlines” and “Air Transport Agreements.” These achievements underscore the UAE’s pivotal role as a regional aviation powerhouse, facilitating seamless connectivity and fostering economic growth across borders.
The UAE’s stellar performance is further highlighted in the prestigious “Global Competitiveness Report 2023” by the International Institute for Management Development. In this report, the UAE stands tall as it claims the top global ranking in the critical “Quality of Air Transport” category, affirming its commitment to excellence and innovation in the aviation sector.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), commended the outstanding achievements of the civil aviation sector. He attributed this success to the visionary leadership and strategic directives of the UAE government, which have provided a conducive environment for growth and innovation. Al Marri emphasized the vital role of the aviation sector in driving economic prosperity and acknowledged the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in realizing these milestones. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and investment in cutting-edge technologies to further enhance the quality and efficiency of air transport infrastructure and services.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, echoed Al Marri’s sentiments, expressing pride in the UAE’s aviation sector’s recent accomplishments. He underscored the sector’s resilience and competitiveness, attributing it to collaborative efforts between GCAA, government entities, national carriers, and industry stakeholders. Al Suwaidi highlighted the strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing air transport infrastructure, optimizing operational efficiency, forging international partnerships, and expanding market reach. These efforts have solidified the UAE’s position as a global aviation hub, facilitating seamless travel experiences and driving tourism growth.
