New Initiative Aims to Boost Sustainable Seafood Production with Advanced Technologies

EAD Launches Abu Dhabi’s First Marine Cage Farming Project

Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched the first sea cage farming project in the emirate, located southeast of Dalma Island. This was reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV Prix.

Aiming to grow native fish species in floating cage systems, the project aims to develop environmental protocols for sustainable farming of marine species in Abu Dhabi and reduce pressure on wild fish populations.

The initiative will help meet the growing demand for seafood and implement advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to manage aquaculture.

The project consists of a water quality monitoring system, underwater and surface cameras and a solar-powered smart data gateway.

The project plans to raise 100 tonnes of fish per year, including valuable species such as Kabid, Chafi, Hamor and Sheri
