UAE and Indonesia Presidents Witness Landmark Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Ties


Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, where they witnessed the announcement of numerous agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation between their countries.

The agreements, exchanged at Qasr Al Watan, cover key sectors such as technology, renewable energy, healthcare, culture, tourism, mining, infrastructure, and international shipping. These initiatives further cement the UAE-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022, strengthening the strategic partnership between the nations.

Expanding Strategic Cooperation

The agreements were signed by prominent representatives from both nations. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, represented the UAE, while Sugiono, Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, led Indonesia’s delegation.

The initiatives focus on collaboration in public and private sectors, aiming to boost areas such as sustainable development, food security, climate action, education, healthcare, and tourism. Both leaders expressed optimism about these agreements, viewing them as a means to elevate bilateral cooperation.

Focus on UAE-Indonesia Relations

During their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and President Subianto discussed deepening their decades-long friendship and partnership. Emphasis was placed on cultural and economic ties, with both leaders exploring new opportunities for collaboration. The UAE President highlighted the 12% growth in non-oil trade between the two nations in 2023, which reached $4.6 billion, and reiterated the goal to increase this volume to $10 billion under CEPA.

President Subianto acknowledged Sheikh Mohamed’s role in fostering ties and praised the UAE’s warm hospitality. He gave former Indonesian President Joko Widodo credit for helping to strengthen the alliance.

Dedication to Common Objectives

The leaders restated their mutual dedication to multilateral efforts to address global issues and sustainable development. Both nations stressed cooperation to address regional and global concerns, and the talks centered on peace, stability, and conflict resolution.

In a symbolic gesture, President Subianto expressed his aspirations for the UAE-Indonesian relationship by writing a note of goodwill in the VIP guestbook at Qasr Al Watan.

Formal Luncheon and Delegation Participation

To honor the Indonesian President’s visit, Sheikh Mohamed hosted an official luncheon attended by UAE dignitaries, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Senior officials and ministers from the Indonesian delegation participated in the discussions and activities.

President Subianto’s state visit is a reflection of the developing and thriving partnership between the UAE and Indonesia. The visit highlights the commitment of both countries to create a strong future together, with agreements covering a wide range of industries and a common goal of economic expansion.

These strategic partnerships provide the foundation for future successes by demonstrating a shared dedication to promoting the development and prosperity of their respective populations.
