Five Arrested for Illegal Falcon Hunting in Abu Dhabi
Five people were arrested for illegally hunting with a falcon in Abu Dhabi, authorities said on Thursday.
Abu Dhabi police said the group was caught red-handed in the desert area of North Khatam. They were seen with a hawk and their ‘catch’ near an SUV. However, it was not immediately clear which wild species were hunted by the group.
According to the UAE Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 on Environmental Protection, Development and Transformation, hunting, killing or capturing of birds, wild and marine animals is prohibited.
Animals can be caught only after obtaining permission from the special authorities.
Meanwhile, Law No. (22) of 2005 regarding the regulation of wild hunting in Abu Dhabi prohibits the hunting of animals, birds and reptiles within the emirate, without the permission of the authority, which determines fishing areas, fishing, and species authorized for fishing. Seasons, tools and equipment used for fishing.
Last month, authorities discovered illegal hunting traps set up in the mountainous region of Fujairah.
