Latifa City: New Area Honors Sheikh Mohammed’s Mother
Dh5.5 Billion Approval: 3,500 Land Plots, 2,300 Houses for Citizens

In a heartfelt tribute to the cherished values of family and heritage, Dubai has designated a newly developed area for Emiratis, and it bears the name of a woman who has been an enduring influence—Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the mother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
This significant development unfolds as Dubai commits to the well-being and prosperity of its citizens, earmarking 3,500 plots of land and 2,300 ready-to-move-in houses with a collective value of Dh5.5 billion. The visionary leader, Sheikh Mohammed, known for his deep connection with his mother, has aptly chosen to honor her legacy through the naming of the new residential area, Sheikha Latifa City.
Sheikh Mohammed, in his book ‘My Story,’ dedicated a substantial portion to reflect on the humanitarian contributions of his mother, highlighting the pivotal role she played in shaping his values and commitment to community welfare. As he approved a series of projects for 2024 as part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, the Ruler emphasized the paramount importance of citizens, their families, and social stability in all government plans.
“Family is the cornerstone of the nation and the foundation of all development plans. Our ultimate objective is to enhance the quality of citizens’ lives for a brighter future,” remarked Sheikh Mohammed.
The housing plots, sprawling across 40 million square feet, represent a substantial investment in the citizens’ well-being. Eligible citizens in Dubai are poised to receive ownership of these plots in February, marking a significant milestone in the realization of housing dreams. Notably, 2,700 plots are situated in the newly designated Latifa City, while 800 are in the Al Yalayis 5 area. This strategic allocation is poised to foster a sense of community and belonging among residents.
The 2,300 new houses for citizens are strategically distributed across key areas, including Al Khawaneej 2, Al Aweer, Wadi Al Amardi, and Hatta. Each of these locations has been carefully chosen to provide Emirati families with a diverse range of living experiences while ensuring proximity to essential amenities and infrastructure.
Earlier this month, Sheikh Mohammed unveiled the ambitious Dh208-billion Dubai Social Agenda program, underscoring a commitment to holistic community development. Among its pivotal objectives is the ambitious goal of doubling the number of Emirati families in the emirate within a decade. This forward-looking initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating a sustainable and inclusive urban environment for citizens.
