UAE Awards Licence for First Authorised Lottery Operation
The Game LLC to launch UAE Lottery, marking a major step in the gaming sector

UAE Awards Licence to Operate First Authorised Lottery
Abu Dhabi: The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the federal entity overseeing commercial gaming activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), awarded the licence to operate the first authorised lottery in the country on Sunday, July 28.
The Game LLC Granted Licence
The licence was awarded to Abu Dhabi-based The Game LLC, a commercial gaming operator specialising in game development, lottery operations, and gaming-related content. Operating under the banner of the ‘UAE Lottery’, the firm will offer a variety of lottery games designed to cater to players’ diverse interests and financial preferences. The move marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s efforts to establish a well-regulated commercial gaming sector, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
A Milestone in UAE’s Gaming Sector
The launch of the UAE Lottery signifies the establishment of a disciplined world-class regulatory framework for lottery activities. Jim Murren, chairman of the GCGRA, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, “The launch of the UAE Lottery is a pivotal event that not only marks the establishment of a disciplined world-class regulatory framework for lottery activities but also underscores our commitment to nurturing a secure and enriched commercial gaming environment in the UAE.”
Regulatory Framework for Integrity and Transparency
Kevin Mullally, chief executive of the GCGRA, emphasized the authority’s dedication to maintaining integrity, fairness, and transparency in commercial gaming activities, including lottery games. “The GCGRA is steadfast in its commitment to global best practices in consumer protection and regulatory oversight,” said Mullally. He further explained that the regulatory framework provides consumers with tools to monitor and manage their gaming activity, leveraging new technologies to create safe, entertaining games and drive consumer-focused innovation.
Consumer Protection and Stakeholder Interests
The GCGRA has developed a comprehensive regulatory framework aimed at safeguarding consumers and protecting the legitimate interests of all stakeholders. This framework ensures that lottery and other gaming activities are conducted securely and fairly, fostering trust and confidence in the system.
Industry-Wide Mandates and Compliance
This significant development comes after some operators of the UAE’s prize draws were required to pause business in January this year due to an industry-wide mandate that aligns with the guidelines and directives of regulators. The pause was part of broader efforts to ensure that all gaming activities comply with established regulations and standards.
Positioning UAE as a Leading Gaming Jurisdiction
By establishing a well-regulated commercial gaming environment, the GCGRA aims to position the UAE as a leading jurisdiction for commercial gaming activities. The new lottery initiative is expected to offer exciting opportunities for players while ensuring that all activities are conducted with the highest standards of integrity and consumer protection.
The UAE Lottery is set to enhance the gaming experience for residents and visitors alike, offering a range of games that cater to different interests and financial preferences. With a robust regulatory framework in place, the initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to creating a secure, fair, and transparent gaming environment.
