UAE Announces Paid Public Holiday for Private Sector on Mawlid al-Nabi

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities on Monday announced a paid public holiday for private sector employees to mark Mawlid al-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Immigration (MoHRE) announced that Sunday, September 15 will be a paid public holiday for private sector employees to mark Mawlid Al-Nabi, which falls on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal 1446H. Islamic calendar.

“On this auspicious occasion, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the UAE leadership, citizens and residents,” the ministry said in X.

The Federal Commission for Government Human Resources (FAHR) also announced a holiday on Saturday, September 7.

As most private companies follow a Monday to Friday week in the Emirates, a public holiday is unlikely to be a day off from work for most. Those who work on Sundays as part of contract hours are in line for rest.

Employees in the UAE can expect a year-end public holiday to celebrate National Day, with Monday, December 2 and Tuesday, December 3 off, The National reports.
