UAE and India to Partner on Renewable Energy Project in Rajasthan

Historic Agreement to Harness Solar and Wind Energy for Sustainable Development

UAE and Rajasthan Sign Investment Memorandum for 60 GW Renewable Energy Project

The UAE has formalized an investment memorandum with the State of Rajasthan, India, to explore the development of an ambitious 60 GW renewable energy project in the region. This initiative represents a significant collaboration aimed at bolstering energy production through sustainable sources.

The agreement will primarily focus on harnessing solar, wind, and hybrid energy opportunities within the western district of Rajasthan, which is known for its ample sunlight and expansive land, making it an ideal location for renewable energy generation. This historic partnership aims to bring advanced renewable energy technologies to the forefront, creating a long-term infrastructure that addresses the critical energy needs of the state.

To implement this landmark initiative, the UAE will appoint a qualified developer who will work closely with relevant Indian authorities to ensure seamless execution. This partnership builds on the broader Investment Cooperation established between the UAE Ministry of Investment and India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, where the groundwork for such a project was initially laid out.

The memorandum was officially signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, the UAE Minister of Investment, and Shri Ajitabh Sharma, the Principal Secretary of Industries for the Government of Rajasthan. During the signing ceremony, Alsuwaidi emphasized the importance of sustainable and renewable methods in meeting future energy demands.

He emphasized that the energy transformation is a crucial pillar of the UAE’s ambitious diversification agenda. “This project reflects our steadfast dedication to promoting clean energy solutions,” he said. We have the perfect setting for this project, which will act as a proving ground for cutting-edge technology that will influence the direction of energy in the future, thanks to Rajasthan’s expansive terrain and pleasant climate.”

In agreement, Lal Sharma said, “India is steadfast in its commitment to a sustainable energy future, and partnerships like this one with the UAE play a crucial role in achieving our goals.” Utilizing Rajasthan’s inherent advantages, he said, this initiative will not only hasten India’s energy transition but also act as a prototype for innovation in. Together, India and the UAE are forging a path toward a greener and more sustainable world.

Both nations have outlined ambitious clean energy goals in recent years. As part of the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050, the country plans to invest over $163 billion by that year, with the goal of ensuring that 50 percent of its energy mix comes from clean sources. Additionally, the UAE aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning its strategies with global climate targets and enhancing its economic sustainability.

Rajasthan’s plans align closely with India’s significant strides in transitioning to clean energy. The country is aiming to reduce carbon intensity by 45 percent by 2030 and to reach net-zero emissions by 2070. Notably, 40 percent of India’s power capacity now comes from non-fossil fuels, a milestone achieved nine years ahead of schedule. Furthermore, with the ambitious $2.4 billion National Green Hydrogen Mission, India is positioning itself as a global leader in the production, use, and export of green hydrogen by 2030, highlighting its commitment to sustainable energy practices.

This collaboration between the UAE and Rajasthan marks a pivotal step toward achieving a sustainable energy future, demonstrating a shared commitment to innovation, renewable energy development, and long-term environmental goals.
