UAE Hosts Eid Milad-un-Nabi Event in New Delhi; September 15 Declared Public Holiday

New Delhi [India], September 12: UAE Ambassador to India Abdulnasser Alshali on Wednesday hosted a gathering to celebrate Eid Milat-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, in Delhi.

Ambassadors of many countries including Pakistan, Syria and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting conducted by Abdulnasser Alshali.

The Prophet’s birthday is observed on Rabi ul Awwal 12, the third month of the Islamic calendar, Khaleej Times reported.

This holiday is called Eid al-Mawlid al-Nabawi or Milad in Arabic. The Prophet Muhammad’s birthday is observed rather than celebrated, and celebrations are kept to a minimum, the report said.

According to Khaleej Times, the UAE government has announced a holiday for public sector employees on September 15 to mark the Prophet’s birthday. The Federal Commission for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has issued a holiday notification on September 7.
