SPL Recognizes Winners of 24th Sharjah Libraries’ Literature Award

24th edition highlights innovative research, new partnerships, and libraries' evolving role in cultural and technological advancement

Sharjah Libraries Literary Award Forum recognizes excellence and expands partnerships

On the inaugural day of the 24th Sharjah Libraries Literary Awards Forum, Sharjah Books Authority (SBA) CEO Ahmad bin Raqqat Al Ameri honored the awardees. Organized by Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL), this prestigious event saw participation from 14 countries, with a significant 37% increase in research submissions. The Forum recognizes outstanding research that contributes to the advancement of library science, knowledge transfer and sustainability practices, reinforcing Sharjah’s leadership in fostering creative achievements for over a century.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SPL and American University of Sharjah (AUS) Library at the event. The agreement aims to expand resource sharing, improve access to information and promote lifelong learning. These include collaborative professional development projects and initiatives such as resource sharing between libraries, ensuring equitable access to knowledge and innovation in library services.

Throughout the day, panel discussions featured cultural and academic leaders who highlighted the growing role of libraries in promoting cultural diversity, enhancing national identity and adapting to technological advances. Speakers praised Sharjah’s rich heritage in library development, noting its global role in cultural exchange through international exhibitions and literary translation. They highlighted how modern libraries like SPL are preserving their traditional roles and embracing digital advancements to meet the needs of today’s generation.

The forum also included presentations by the first-place winners, who discussed the relevance of their research to modern challenges, particularly in promoting sustainable practices in libraries. The day concluded with reflections on the vital role of knowledge dissemination in creating a progressive and innovative society.
