Saudi: King Faisal Prize 2024 laureates announcement on Jan. 10

Anticipation Builds for Announcement of Distinguished Laureates in Riyadh

The anticipation is mounting as the King Faisal Prize (KFP) is poised to reveal the distinguished recipients of its 2024 accolades on January 10th in the vibrant city of Riyadh. This highly regarded Arab award, spanning categories including Islamic studies, Arabic language and literature, medicine, and science, continues to be a beacon of recognition for exemplary contributions to these vital fields.

Behind the scenes, specialized selection committees have been diligently gathering at the KFP headquarters in Riyadh to engage in thoughtful deliberations aimed at identifying the most deserving laureates. These committees, composed of experts and scholars hailing from an impressive 22 countries worldwide, bring a diverse and comprehensive perspective to the evaluation process.

The topics for the 46th session of the KFP in 2024 were unveiled in 2022, laying the groundwork for a focused exploration of groundbreaking work. The categories include Islamic studies, delving into the contemporary applications of Islamic legislations; Arabic language and literature, exploring the endeavors of non-Arab institutions in promoting the Arabic language; medicine, with a keen focus on the management of peripheral disabilities; and science, honing in on the fascinating realm of biology.

At the helm of the committee responsible for selecting the laureate in the esteemed Service to Islam category is Prince Turki Al-Faisal. The selection process adheres rigorously to the guidelines established by the KFP General Secretariat, ensuring an objective and transparent evaluation that upholds the prestige of the award.

Nomination criteria underline the significance of contributions from scientific institutions, universities, research centers, and language councils. It is imperative that the nominee’s work has been previously published, possesses informative qualities, and significantly contributes to the enrichment of knowledge for the betterment of humanity. Remarkably, the KFP places restrictions on nominations, excluding individuals or political parties, and considers only living writers for this esteemed recognition.

Established by the King Faisal Foundation in 1977, the KFP has been a steadfast beacon of acknowledgment for exceptional contributions from both individuals and institutions. Since the inaugural awards ceremony in 1979, the prize has consistently sought to benefit Muslims and advance the frontiers of human knowledge and development.

As the world eagerly awaits the unveiling of the laureates for 2024, Prince Turki Al-Faisal will take center stage on Wednesday at the KFP headquarters in Riyadh to announce the names of those whose work has left an indelible mark on Islamic studies, Arabic language and literature, medicine, and science. The KFP continues to be a symbol of excellence, honoring those whose efforts contribute significantly to the betterment of society and the advancement of human understanding.
