New RTA Pilot Service Offers Affordable Rides with Fares Starting at Dh66 per Passenger

Dubai Launches Shared Taxi Service to Cut Travel Costs Between Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new shared taxi service aimed at reducing the travel costs between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The pilot service, which will last for six months, allows passengers to share a taxi ride between Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi, with fares starting as low as Dh66 per passenger. For the same route, this rate is up to 75% less expensive than standard taxi fares.

After a thorough examination of possible routes, the shared taxi service was introduced. The selected route links two important centers, the Al Wahda Center in Abu Dhabi and the Ibn Battuta Center in Dubai, both of which have excellent access to parking lots and public transportation. This program aims to provide frequent commuters who travel between the two cities with an economical and effective mode of transportation.

Rates and Methods of Payment
When four persons ride in the same taxi, the fee is Dh66 per passenger. However, the fee rises to Dh132 for two passengers or Dh88 for three if just two or three people ride together. Both bank cards and Nol cards are accepted by passengers, providing a quick and easy way to pay.

Environmental and Traffic Benefits
The new shared taxi service is part of RTA’s initiative to alleviate traffic congestion and promote sustainable transportation options. RTA seeks to lower carbon emissions and stop the use of illegal transportation services by promoting ridesharing among passengers. All passengers may ride in safety thanks to the cabs’ contemporary safety features, which also include driver performance monitoring systems and cameras that are linked to the operations control center.

Plans for the Future
RTA intends to assess the potential for future service expansion to more sites based on the outcomes of this six-month trial program. This will improve connectivity and give commuters between the two emirates more cost-effective travel options.
