QUAD Summit in India Postponed to Later in 2024

The QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) Summit scheduled to be held in India in January 2024 has been postponed and is proposed to be rescheduled later in the year, according to official sources. The revised dates are currently under consideration, as the initially planned dates do not align with the schedules of all QUAD partners.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in May that India would host the next QUAD leaders’ Summit, emphasizing the strategic importance of the grouping. The QUAD comprises four democracies—India, Australia, the United States, and Japan—with a shared commitment to promoting a “free, open, and prosperous” Indo-Pacific region.

The QUAD Summit was last held in Sydney in May 2023, but the subsequent summit in India was canceled after U.S. President Biden withdrew from his visit due to ongoing debt limit talks in Washington. The leaders later agreed to hold a virtual summit on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima to mark the Quad’s progress.

The QUAD Summit is a key platform for strategic coordination and cooperation among the member countries in addressing regional and global challenges, particularly those related to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
