Qatar Charity and UNHCR Join Forces to Aid Sudanese Refugees in Egypt and Chad

To improve the lives of more than 30,000 Sudanese refugees living in Egypt and Chad, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Qatar Charity signed two agreements for a combined QAR 4,375,696 (about US$1.2 million).

With this support, which is made possible by the Islamic charitable practice of zakat, Sudanese refugees will be able to better address the mounting humanitarian issues they confront.

The Letter of Intent on Islamic Philanthropy Collaboration that was signed by Qatar Charity and UNHCR in March of last year was followed by this financial pledge. In the letter, it is emphasized how crucial a part Zakat plays in meeting urgent humanitarian needs across the world.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Qatar Charity inked two agreements for a total of QAR 4,375,696 (about US$1.2 million) to enhance the lives of more than 30,000 Sudanese refugees who are exiled in Egypt and Chad.

Sudanese refugees will be better equipped to deal with the growing humanitarian difficulties they face with this assistance, which is made possible by the Islamic philanthropic practice of zakat.

This financial commitment came after Qatar Charity and UNHCR signed a letter of intent on a collaboration in Islamic philanthropy in March of last year. The letter emphasizes the critical role that Zakat plays in addressing urgent humanitarian needs across the world.

Essential aid supplies, including blankets, cooking sets, sleeping mats, and jerrycans, will be given to an additional 7,790 Sudanese refugees in Chad.Nawaf Abdulla Al-Hammadi, Chief Global Programs Officer of Qatar Charity, reiterated the organization’s dedication to assisting displaced people in cooperation with UNHCR.

The purpose of this grant is to lessen the burdens placed on hapless Sudanese refugee families in Egypt and Chad. Their ability to prioritize their most pressing requirements would be made possible by financial support and basic supplies, according to Al-Hammadi.Hanan Hamdan, a representative for UNHCR in Egypt, emphasized the value of donations from non-governmental organizations while adding that more than 280,000 people had used Egypt’s southern borders as a route to safety.
