Oman’s Premier Football Tournament Draws Excitement at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat – tournament to start on September 28

When Fanja kicks off their campaign in the 2023–24 His Majesty’s Cup Football Championship against Al Salam on September 28, they will be aiming to match Dhofar’s record of ten championships. Fanja is a former champion and nine-time winner.

The Sultanate of Oman’s most prestigious competition was drawn in a glittering ceremony at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat with His Highness Sayyid Loay bin Ghalib Al Said as the chief guest, Sheikh Salim Al Wahaibi as president of the Oman Football Association (OFA), H.H. Sayyid Azzan bin Kais Al Said as vice-president of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), as well as other dignitaries and club representatives.

Hassan Mudhaffar and Adil Matar, two former Omani football players,  picked up the draw of lots.In the preliminary round (knockout format) draw, 16 teams were matched up against one another, with previous champions Muscat playing Sur in another tantalizing match. Twelve Oman First Division League clubs and four Omantel League teams in last position made up the 16 teams.

For the 24-team event, 16 teams were drawn in the first round, with the other eight teams.Al Nahda, the reigning champion, and the top seven Omantel League clubs from the previous year were among the eight teams. Dhofar, Seeb, Sohar, Al Nasr, Al Rustaq, Bahla, and Oman are among them.

The eight remaining players and the winners of the preliminary round will advance to the round of 16, where four-time champions Seeb will face off against 2023–24 Omantel League leaders Sohar. The victors of the preliminary round will be awaited by the remaining six teams.
