Arab Man Jailed for Three Years, Fined Dhs 247,000 for Robbery and Assault in Dubai
The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab to three years in prison, followed by deportation and a fine of Dh247,000 for one of them locking up the owner of a tourism company and an employee, assaulting them and stealing Dh247,000 from the company’s safe, who are still at large.
The case arose in March last year when the owner of the company, from the Naif area, complained to the police that he and an employee were assaulted, threatened and robbed.
The victim told the court that the defendant knocked on his office door, and when he answered, the defendant and five other guys barged in and brandished a big knife at him.
While others attacked him, the defendant asked him to open a safe inside his office at knifepoint. One of them then took the safe’s key, and they stole Dh247,000 from the safe and ran away, he claimed.
An officer reported that the accused, an Arab national, was apprehended in a different emirate after the investigation team was able to identify him.
The accused stated that he did not know the fugitives, but he acknowledged that he and an African national took part in the robbery of a tourist attraction in the Naif area.
According to a police officer, the investigation team found and arrested the criminal in another emirate.
The defendant admitted that he and other Africans had plundered a tourist destination in the Naif region, but he denied knowing who his compatriots were.
The defendant explained that the day before the robbery, the other defendants had taken his cell phone and some of his documents, and they had promised to restore his stuff provided he supported them in collecting money from a business owner depending on the quantity of alcohol drunk.
During the proceedings, the defendant was told by a national costumed accomplice that he should go with them to the Naif area. Once they reached the corporate offices, they all went inside, took money from the safe, and ran away. He said that he was unsure of the other defendants’ whereabouts.
