Kerala Man Hospitalized with Mpox Symptoms After UAE Travel; Nipah Prevention Intensified
A person who traveled to Kerala from the UAE last week was admitted to the hospital after developing mpox symptoms.
Health Minister Veena George said the youth has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri, Malappuram district.
“He came home last week. As he had symptoms, he first went into self-isolation at home. Does not socialize with others at home. He was admitted to the Medical College Hospital yesterday. His samples have been sent for testing. We are waiting for the final confirmation,” he said.
Meanwhile, after a youth died of Nipah virus in Malappuram, the health department has intensified preventive measures in a few panchayats. Control zones have been declared in selected wards under Tiruvali, Mampat and Vandur panchayats.
The minister said 13 samples of high-risk individuals have come back negative for Nipah. “The victim’s contact list has 175 people, of whom 74 are healthcare workers. 104 people are in the high-risk category and 10 have been hospitalized with Nipah symptoms,” he said.
