Kerala Man Extradited from UAE Over 2005 Newspaper Attack
A Kerala man wanted in connection with a 2005 violent attack on a newspaper owner in Kerala has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates and detained by police at the Delhi airport, officials said on Saturday.
Qamiz Uthman Al Hammadi Odham, wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the 2005 sword attack on Shamsuddin, owner of the newspaper ‘The Criminal’ in Kozhikode, has been issued a red notice against him. .
After arriving in Delhi from the United Arab Emirates on Friday evening, Otham was taken into custody by a squad of Kerala Police.
Three accused people, including Odham, arrived to KP Chandran Road in Kozhikode on July 15, 2005, and assaulted Shamsuddin with swords with the goal of murdering him. They had arrived in a van.
Shamsuddin was seriously injured in the attack.
On February 17, 2020, a red notice was issued against Otam by the CBI at the request of the Kerala Police.
CBI’s Global Operations Center coordinated closely with Kerala Police and INTERPOL NCB-Abu Dhabi for geo-location of the accused.
